Veterans Day Pasta for Patriots returns to VFW In what has become an annual tradition, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3676 will open their doors on Veterans Day to host Pasta For Patriots, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser that’ll offer past and present servicemen a free meal. The dinner will be open to the public starting a 4 p.m. and tentatively run until 7 depending on supplies. A plate will costs $7 and include spaghetti with a “hearty meat sauce,” a salad, garlic bread and dessert. All veterans and active duty service members will eat for free. “It’s going to happen Saturday, on Veterans Day,” announced Wendy Pearce, an auxiliary trustee with the Sault’s VFW post. “Last year was pretty good. It was very successful.” Funds raised from the dinner are going to the Honor Flight Program, that takes World War II and Korean War veterans from across the area to Washington D.C. to see numerous monuments. Proceeds will also go to the VFW relief fund that helps local veterans receive assistance with utility bills and travel expenses for medical appointments. “This year, word has gotten out that they have one (a relief fund), so it’s been utilized a lot this year,” added Pearce, explaining the choice. “Word has gotten out that the VFW can help with it.” The inaugural Pasta for Patriots drew such a crowd the VFW ran out of spaghetti to serve. Additionally, under By-law 77-200-5(14), motorists are reminded that effective Wednesday, November 1 parking of vehicles on city streets is not permitted during the winter months between midnight and 6 a.m. Vehicles that remain parked on the street during an overnight parking restriction will receive a $15 fine and may have their vehicle towed at the owner's expense. The By-law remains in effect from November 1, 2017 through to midnight April 30, 2018 even when there is no snow. Weather predictions may be incorrect and when snow occurs officers from the Sault Ste.
